WONDERWOOL WOOL SCHOOLS

WOOLSCHOOL – THE HISTORY OF SILK AND DYES

You will gain an understanding of the evolution of silk production and dyeing from ancient civilisations to the present day.

Discover the different dyes historically used and how modern synthetic dyes compare.

Experiment with a simple hand-painting dyeing technique for each student to dye their own A Grade pure mulberry silk embroidery threads to keep and use.

WOOLSCHOOL – DORSET SINGLETON BUTTONS

On this course you will hear about the history of Dorset Buttons and learn the skills to make beautiful Dorset Singletons. You will make up to 4 buttons which can then be used as a set for clothing or turned into brooches or keyrings.

WOOLSCHOOL – AN INTRODUCTION TO BLOCK PRINTING

Learn the art of Indian block printing and the joys of hand printing your own fabric or paper. Anna will share her in depth knowledge, showing you tips, tricks and techniques for you to print your own creations. During this workshop you will create your very own block printed tea towel or tote bag.

WOOLSCHOOL –SUNFLOWER WILLOW WEAVING

Participants will weave a Sunflower using willow.

AIMS OF THE WORKSHOP
To make a hanging willow Sunflower, an introduction to willow weaving. Master willow techniques, use of tools and materials. Develop motor skills, participate in a mindful activity using natural materials

WOOLSCHOOL – SWALLOW WILLOW WEAVING

WOOLSCHOOL – AN INTRODUCTION TO PLY-SPLIT BRAIDING

Following an introduction to the origins and development of Ply-Split Braiding, you will learn some of the basic methods of ply-splitting that have been used traditionally to make camel girths and animal harnesses. Using prepared 4 ply cotton cords you will make samples of several different designs suitable for key fobs and bracelets. You will see how this technique can be developed with reference to my collection of samples and finished pieces. There will also be a demonstration of cord making on the Kipu cord maker.

WOOLSCHOOL – CREATIVE HAND EMBROIDERED FLOWERS

This workshop will introduce you to basic hand embroidery stitches and how to use them creatively. You will learn how to use a range of textured threads and yarns to create hand embroidered flowers.

To introduce learners to creative hand embroidery using textured hand painted threads.

WOOLSCHOOL –INTRODUCTION TO TWO-COLOUR BRIOCHE KNITTING

Learn this amazing knitting technique to create a wonderfully squishy fabric. We will cover the basics of the two-colour Brioche stitch and the terminology. We will also explore a Brioche increase and two simple decreases to create geometric shapes in your Brioche swatch.

WOOLSCHOOL – DROP SPINDLING FOR BEGINNERS

Drop spindling is a simple, portable and inexpensive method of creating yarn to use in knitting, crochet or weaving. But be warned – it can become addictive!  Join Sarah’s workshop to learn the basics of drafting fibres from ready prepared wool tops and spinning them into yarn before plying and skeining it.

WOOLSCHOOL – FLEECE PREPARATION

In this workshop we will look at different fleeces and learn how to choose a fleece for the job you need. It will include skirting several fleeces, washing, drying and storing. A raw fleece is included in the course for you to take home, plus a handout on washing.

To give students confidence in selecting fleeces suitable for the job required, skirting and washing.

Join Tamsin from The Left Hookery for a relaxed crochet session and create your very own tiny crochet basket! Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to refresh their skills, you’ll learn to make a neat base, shape sturdy sides and finish with a polished edge.
